Is The Bbb A Scam

By Gwen Lowe

In the United States of America, there is an organization that is known as the Better Business Bureau that would monitor the companies located in America and would grade them according to efficiency and credibility. Now their job is mainly to let the readers know if a particular company is actually legitimate or not. However, due to recent cases and controversies, many have been asking is the bbb a scam or not.

Now the reason as to why many people are doubting this website is simply because of the scandals that came out in the year 2010. During this time, they had a scandal wherein they would actually sell the grades that they give to the companies. Now what happened here is that this organization would give high ratings to the companies who are members of the bbb and low ratings to those who are not.

Now the thing about the Better Business Bureau is that many people think that it is credible simply because they are looking for a site that provides reviews on businesses. Now just how one would know how this system works, the BBB offers companies a membership fee. This membership fee would depend on how big the company is and how well known it is.

Apparently, the ABC News channel featured the Better Business Bureau and discovered a few things. One of the things is that although many people think this is a private government body that would keep watch of the companies that are in the country. However, it is actually just a private non profit organization asking for money for membership.

The whole purpose of the website is very good however, the problem lies within the membership programs that they would be offering. Now the fishy part here is that the members who paid the organization would somehow get high grades. The ones who did not pay however, would get low or even mediocre grades from the website.

Now of course there are a lot of cases where business owners would actually pay the organization to have a change of grades. Now many companies who had low grades would actually have higher grades after they have paid the organization a membership fee. Of course when word got out to the public, many people became wary of the Bureau.

Now their credibility rating went even lower when it was exposed that they gave businesses that were considered scams really good ratings. Because of the number of complaints received from the authorities and readers alike, they had no choice but to shut down the branch that took part in that activity. Two years after the scandal, they finally shut down the branch that did the activity.

Of course these events that transpired in the year 2010 would really make a person think twice before he can trust the BBB. It was because of this big scandal that this organization has lost so much public trust. Of course they did try to save themselves by telling the public that only one branch did it.
